Boathouse Theater, Emerald Bay Rd, South Lake Tahoe, California
Songwriter Celebration: Linda McRae, Rick Shea and Ernest Troost September 6, 7:30 pm Boathouse Theatre, $20-$35
Linda McRae: Unflaggingly authentic, deeply satisfying, refreshingly acoustic imbued with a big dose of soul and a skilled musicality, Linda McRae’s warm and world-weary voice, unforgettable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics make her one of Canada’s most captivating and sought-after artists. 2016 BC Entertainment Hall of Fame inductee and First Place winner in the 2017 FFC (Family Folk Choral) Songwriting Contest for Be Your Own Light.
Rick Shea: Rick Shea cut his teeth in the bars and honky-tonks of San Bernardino where he grew up. Shea is equally at home with an acoustic guitar and a set of ballads and stories, or with his worn old Telecaster burning through a set of his own songs and a few honky-tonk standards. His songs reflect the folk, country, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with. As a songwriter Shea lets the songs find their own settings. Among his songwriting influences are Merle Haggard, Dave Alvin and Jim Ringer.
Ernest Troost: Ernest Troost is an Emmy award-winning composer of scores for films and television, including the cult-classic Tremors and HBO’s award-winning Lesson Before Dying. He is also a recipient of the Kerrville New Folk award for his songwriting. His evocative style combines folk and Piedmont-blues-style guitar picking with timeless stories and colorful character portrayals drawn from the American past and present. Troost is a brilliant songwriter making pensive, sometimes snarling, Steve Earle-ish, lyrically-driven Americana with masterful finger picking.
